A seated samurai in full-armour, holding a war fan.
A woodblock-printed illustration from the album ‘Bairei Ekagami’ (Mirror of Bairei Paintings), also known as ‘Bairei Gakan'. The prints in this album, all originally designed by printmaker and painter Kono Bairei (1844-1895), are showing a great variety of subjects. The first edition is published by Shigemoto Ryonosuke in 1903 and followed by three editions by Unsodo, printed from the original blocks and published at intervals.
The present print is an impression from an (unbound?) Unsodo-edition.
