Portrait of a lady, half-length in a blue dress in the circle of Johann-Henrich Tischbein . The portrait is an oil on octagonal- shaped canvas, laid down onto a panel.
This superb oval painting with oval aperture is 87 cm x 78 cm at it's widest point and the frame is 104 cm x 85 cm making it a large .
A lovely sized 18th Century portrait for the collector and in good condition given it's age.
There are some light signs of craquelure commensurate with it's age; but it appears that the painting had a professional and very good restoration in the 20th century when the canvas was laid onto board and remounted. The painting would most certainly have been cleaned when it was restored.
The subject is unknown but most likely a member of the German court circle and aristocracy judging by the sitters splendid attire and jewelry. She was clearly a lady of strong character and influence.
We will issue a certificate of authenticity with the painting and it was acquired ex private collector from a leading UK auction source and thereby we are happy with it's provenance and description.
The painting is a fabulous addition to the portrait collector and hangs beautifully.
Note :Shipping costs to mainland Europe are based on estimates we have received given the likely packaging size and the paintings weight.
