EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
Marko Polo extra virgin olive oil from the Croatian island Korcula is obtained directly from the olive fruit, exclusively in an artisanal way by means of cold pressing (also called mechanical way). This Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made exclusively from selected olive varieties from the western part of the island of Korčula: Lastovka, Drobnica and Oblica.
It is a unique olive variety that has been cultivated on the island of Korčula for thousands of years. This gives the olive oil a pleasantly soft aroma, taste, color and an intense green-gold color. Extra virgin olive oil is made from the first cold pressing of the olives. The olives are therefore not yet heated, which is what happens with the cheaper olive oil. This preserves the taste and all vitamins in this extra virgin olive oil.
The specific characteristics of Marco Polo extra virgin olive oil are:
pronounced fruit flavor
mild spiciness
moderate bitterness
Most of the oil is obtained from the Lastovo variety, which is rich in polyphenols, which are known to be natural antioxidants that protect the oil from auto-oxidative changes, ie accelerated aging and decay.
