Short sword, wakizashi, Japan, Epo period, 1600-1868.
Estimated age: 17th century
The wakizashi has an old polish, has some light scratches, no rust or tears, and is sharp.
The saya is made of wood and has a few minor scratches. Otherwise in very good condition and of high quality. The varnish contains gold flecks, which is clearly visible in sunlight.
The tsuba (6.8 x 6.4 cm) is made of iron, decorated with a figure of which the head and sword are made of gold, possibly forged from a remainder of the blade (to be used for the dating process?)
Nakago signed with 5 characters (which I can't translate) and has 2 mekugi-ana (holes)
The habaki is made of silver, as is the fill plate.
The wakishasi has been given a new casing (fits smoothly into the sheath).
Total length 57 cm, blade length 36.5 cm.
Blade length incl. nakago 47 cm.
Blade width 2.6 cm.
