Pesas de opio (2) - Bronce - Poids en forme d'Hintha - Birmania - siglo XIX
Buen estado, ver descripción

DESCRIPTION:

Two ‘opium’ weights representing Hintha, the mythical Burmese bird, one of the three classic representations used for these weights, with the elephant and the lion.

Their size and weight are approximately identical, just over 300 grams, which corresponded to approximately 20 tikal, in the old Burmese metric system, 19th century, at least.

Travel diary of Jean Dumoulin.

These typical weights from Burma have been used for centuries and are sometimes still used in certain markets of remote villages. These are named ‘opium weights’, but were used to weigh all sorts of precious products, gold, silver, medicinal plants, or even simple consumer goods.

Condition:

In good condition, with some age and use marks, a beautiful patina of use.

Carefully packaged and shipped with insurance via Bpost, with track & trace.
