The hanging lamp is made of silver and gilded silver (vermeil) embossed, chiselled and engraved. The body is in the shape of a flattened vase, with bulges and tapers. The virtuosic craftsmanship of the embossing is more visible in the lower part of the lamp, closer to the eyes of the observer from below, and is decorated with cartouches and racemes on a finely hammered background. The top is embossed with pod-shaped ribbings.
The three handles, in the shape of stylized acanthus leaves, serve as hooks to the chains, made of fluted spheres intersected with rectangular elements. A ring joins the chain to the handle.

On the silversmith Luigi Conti, please read the article 'Alla scoperta di preziose opere d’arte con i lavori in cesello di Luigi Conti' published on the Messaggero Veneto newspaper on 26 february 2008 and written by Giuseppe Bergamini, director of the Museo Diocesano e Gallerie del Tiepolo in Udine: 'among the silversmiths and goldsmiths active in Udine in the 19th century, Luigi Conti (1810 - 1881) is without any doubt the one whose artworks have the greatest visual impact. Among his works, two are particularly famous among the Friulians: the large monstrance made of casted and chiselled gilded silver commissioned by the Empress of Austria Maria Carolina who donated it in 1853 to his confessor, Giovanni Battista Gaspardo, (still today the Monstrance is kept in the parish of Codroipo) and the celebratory Vase, in embossed and chiselled silver, belonging to the art collection of the Crup (Cassa di Risparmio di Udine e Pordenone) Foundation.

Hallmarks: 1) LC (initials of Luigi Conti) monogram with vase, 2) anvil, 3) caduceus with snakes, indicating the Office of guarantee of Udine, 4) globe with the zodiac and the 'seven trioni', that is, the seven stars of the Ursa Major, for the fineness of 800 silver.

In some of the smaller components of the lamp the globe with the zodiac is replaced by the anvil, as a guarantee of the fineness of 800 silver. As the lamp is made of many different and sometimes small pieces, both hallmarks are present.

Luigi Conti was active in Udine between 1845 and 1868.

Electrical wiring has been added to this lamp in the past.

Dimensions: height with chains 71 cm; height of the lantern only 28 cm.; diameter 17 cm.
