Antique oil painting on canvas, datable to the late 16th century, depicting Mary with the Child sleeping.

This refined canvas is attributable to an artist working in Lombardy in the second half of the 16th century, with stylistic and qualitative results similar to the production of Ercole Procaccini the Elder (1520-1591).

In a beautiful 19th century frame, gilt and decorated with leaf motifs, with some flaws and defects.

In good overall condition considering its age, with patina, there are noteworthy flaws and no conservation issues. The original canvas has an old re-lining that does not seem to require further intervention. Fine craquelure compatible with age. It looks like the stretcher was replaced when the painting was relined.
