Notes: Circa 1880, Degas began a series of monotypes inspired by Parisian brothels. These artworks remained in his personal collection and were purchased early
1920s by Ambroise Vollard (the famous art dealer of Picasso, Cézanne, Renoir and Georges Rouault). He entrusted them to Maurice Potin who set them in copper and printed them. Vollard finally published them circa 1935 in two portfolios in a limited edition of approximately 350 copies.
The engraving offered in this lot comes from the archives of the engraver Maurice Potin.
