Mask - Wood - Kagura mask of God of Good Fortune Daikoku 大黒 - Japan - Early 20th century
An interesting Kagura festival mask of the early 20th century. The mask depicts Daigoku one of the seven gods of good fortune. The flesh coloured mask shows the face with a black beard pronounced eyebrows and a black cap. There is a strong red band running across the bottom of the cap.and above the forehead. The lips are full red and smiling. There are several areas of paint loss to the cap and a 3cms surface loss of flesh coloured wood to left hand side (see in photo)
Otherwise a lovely mask for a collector of Japanese masks.
