SKYGARDEN 1, diffuse light pendant lamp designed by Marcel Wanders for Flos.
Seemingly simple, this lamp actually proves complex and fascinating, a stroke of genius.
Its celebrated designer tells us that the idea of this lamp rose from his desire to bring back the decorative element of ancient stuccoes and plaster rosettes used in the luxury historic villas; what was usually part of a ceiling decoration, was now inside the lamp, collected in a modern dome.
At first glance, it looks like a domed pendant lamp like many others; only when you get closer, you discover its heart and the plaster floral subject, that’s when the wonder strikes and grows even more by turning the light on.
The dome is in cast plaster on the inside, mechanically worked and painted white, while the chromatic finish on the outside is in matte gold-lacquered aluminium.
At the centre of the plaster interior, of the “suspended garden”, is placed the bulb socket, covered by a mouth-blown incamiciato opal glass diffuser, completed by a steel ring and a lovely floral frieze.
