The two lovers hug to escape the horror of the world, "with all the pain in their arms", as a poem by Dylan Thomas reads.
She clings firmly to him, as if it were a safe haven.
Outside, in the streets, bombs thunder. Inside, in the room, the noise rumbles making the glass tremble.
Their embrace turns into a grip, a desperate attachment to life.
The tender and resigned pose of the woman almost seems to console the man, to overcome his human weaknesses.
Like Edgar Degas, Vassily Kandinsky, Egon Schiele, Piet Mondrian, Georges Braque, Raoul Dufy, René Magritte, Vincent Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Paul Cezanne, Renoir, Matisse, Rembrandt, Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Constantin Brancusi, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat, Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele was one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
