Wonderful Trani marble fasces with black Portoro marble base, finely crafted and decorated, original from the period.
Dating back to the Fascist period, it comes from a prestigious private collection of exclusive objects from the period. The fasces is secured to the base with an iron rod.
The particularity is that it has a lion face on the top, which is usually an eagle in more common pieces.
In Ancient Rome, fasces lictoriae were weapons bore by lictors and consisted of a bundle of wooden sticks bound, usually around an axe, by leather straps. Later, they were used as heraldic symbols by political movements and ideologies of the 20th century, such as Fascism.
