Extremely rare and high quality cabinet from around 1470 - 1525.
A masterpiece.
Very high quality carving - the artists / sculptors who made the sculptures also sometimes made the carving on a cabinet like this.
This was a showpiece in its day.
Pictured on the top doors is a women's portrait.
Presumably from the owner and client.
Not only the front is richly carved - also the sides are beautifully decorated.
Remarkably beautifully worked out wrought iron fitting.
See also the key (photo).
Gothic period lasted a long time and is therefore not easy to date well, this piece of furniture I do not date in the very last period of gothic period, the 16th century.
Earlier 15th century considering the ornamentation and the arch windows (close-up).
These are also common on sculptures around this time - 1470.
Restoration:
A piece is put on the right rear leg. The front legs slightly raised.
The left rear leg raised a bit.
In the back a panel has once been replaced.
On the inside of the doors you can see that there used to be other locks on it. Yet this fitting is original and one with the design of the ornaments. See also the details. Perhaps an owner temporarily had put other locks on it and later returned it to its original condition.
