Lorenzo Cecconi, son of a restorer of paintings, studied at Saint Luca's Academy in Rome, under the guidance of Aurelio Tiratelli.
As in this painting, he painted landscapes and rural figures of "Roman Campagna".
He preferred tonal range of greens and grays, to represent the slightly melancholy light effect of rain and overcast skies.
Contrary to easel painting and animated by passion of portraying the figures and landscapes of "Roman "Countryside" from life, he was part of the first nucleus of an Association called "I Vassalli della Campagna Romana".
A company's part belonged to artists from the association: "In arte libertas", born in 1886 on initiative of the master Giovanni Costa known as "Nino", to oppose the "Art of nineteenth-century Mannerism".
