Wax model with internal plaster reinforcement.
The subject represents the head of the dancing Faun of Pompeii.
The wax models are the preliminary phase of bronze castings obtained with the lost-wax casting technique.
Our faun has a black patina.
The moulds of these models were obtained from original museum pieces.
The production of these subjects in bronze had a flourishing period throughout the 1900s.
Besides being collectors’ items, these were valuable souvenirs for travellers as well.
Due to the strong demand, the foundries made several copies for each model.
We have 4 copies of this subject. The piece measures 35 cm and is in an almost perfect state of preservation.
The faun is a rural deity connected to Dionysus.
Protective materials and packaging involve an additional basic cost.
