Giancarlo Piretti - Anonima Castelli - Silla plegable - Plia

Giancarlo Piretti - Anonima Castelli - Silla plegable - Plia
Italia - 1970-1979 - Acero, Aluminio, Plástico

The Plia folding chair was designed by Giancarlo Piretti for the manufacturer Anonima Castelli.

This elegant folding chair is completely transparent and therefore makes a positively surprising impression. Moreover, this ensures that the model can be easily combined with the rest of the furniture. This design is especially well expressed in a modern interior. The chair is designed in such a way that the seat surface has a slight curvature, providing exceptional comfort.

The construction of this chair is made of steel, giving the design a durable character. Furthermore, the Plia folding chair is made of plastic, making it very suitable for outdoor use. The design has a width of 47 cm, a height of 75 cm and a depth of 50 cm. The seat height is 43 cm. The chair can be stored in a highly efficient way, and needs little storage room in folded form.

The symbol of a new era focused on plastic: for example, that's how the plia chair from 1967 was received when it was presented at the Milan Furniture Fair. On the occasion of the fair, the chair received so much attention from the public that many visitors left the booth to take samples without even asking permission... as a result of this unorthodox compliment, the chairs were tied down with a chain for safety. With the plia seat, the designer Giancarlo Piretti has radically changed the concept of a folding chair and his study of the "3-disc pivot point" is considered a stroke of genius. The combination of a steel and polypropylene frame paved the way for the plia chair, which has become a cult object. Giancarlo Piretti Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940. After studying fine arts at the academy in Bologna, he started working as an interior designer for Anonima Castelli, where he designed products for both the home and the office, as well as for the community. In 1969 he invented plia, one of the company's main landmarks, an iconic example of 'made in Italy' design.
Over the years he has been awarded the "Compasso d'Oro Adi" twice: for the swirl seating system - designed together with Emilio Ambasz - and for the Piretti collection, launched in 1988.
