Very beautiful and detailed painted antique Greek icon / four-field icon from the 19th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera colour or oil on a wooden panel with chalk background. The icon was made according to traditional methods of icon production. The painting is very detailed. Rather unusual for ancient Greek icons. Depicted are e.g. "Saints Kosmas and Damian (patron saints of the doctors), "Proclamation" and two other saints. All saints are also very finely labelled. The inscriptions are clearly legible. The icon was dated 1872 at the bottom left. Very expressive and eye-catching icon. Perfectly matched colour contrasts. Masterfully executed, colour transitions. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear and tear in the form of scratches, small tears, colour flaking (see photos). The face of Kosmas is slightly pressed in (see photos). The painting has minimal craquelure. Partial restorations are present. Two transverse wooden laths are installed on the back.
A piece for connoisseurs, collectors and enthusiast of Russian icon painting. All details are clearly visible in the photos. The photos are part of the description.
