Charles Eames, Ray Eames - Vitra - Vitra Design Museum - Colección de miniaturas (2) - Eames Lounge Chair en Ottoman

The Lounge Chair, the most famous creation of Charles and Ray Eames. It was first released in 1956 and has become a classic in modern furniture history. Made of the organically shaped plywood shells that are typical of Charles and Ray Eames and upholstered with soft leather. The chair exudes modern simplicity, technical ingenuity but also luxury. Charles and Ray Eames wanted to use the mechanical mass production of the chair and its components in such a way that the design would become better, not worse, thanks to this mass production. Under the direction of Charles and Ray Eames, the Eames Office spent 10 years developing the Lounge Chair with 10 Full Time Employees. When the chair first appeared on the market in 1956, the design immediately was a success. Although the Lounge Chair was also very expensive - even for its time - in the 1950s, the Eames Lounge Chair was popular right from its introduction, and it became ever more popular! Today it is an icon, perhaps even the best-known designer chair. The Vitra miniatures are as close as possible to the full-size designs, and because they are handmade, they take a long time to produce.
